When you create a Facebook ad account (Meta Ads) to start advertising your company on Facebook and Instagram, it's important to pay close attention to a few details that have an impact on the start of this journey.

This process is important because Meta Ads (Facebook Ads) doesn't allow you to easily change many things. Some of them are impossible to change in the business manager once the account has been created.

In these cases, if you really need to change this type of setting, you'll need to create another ad account and "forget" about the old one. To do this, you need to contact Facebook Support and they will recommend the best process to follow.

In many cases, you'll need to register with Business Facebook again, using a different e-mail address, as Facebook usually only releases one ad account per registration (unless your company meets a series of requirements, such as having an active account for a long time).

So it's best to avoid these mishaps! With this in mind, we've put together a list of the main mistakes you should avoid when creating your Business Facebook Ads Account.

Main mistakes when starting to promote on Facebook

1. Selecting the Wrong Payment Method in the Facebook Ads Account

When choosing a payment method, there are two options: automatic (via credit card, debit card or Paypal) or manual (via boleto bancário). When you set one of these options when you register, your account will always have that payment method.

Even if you want to change it later, you won't be able to. So make sure you choose the payment method you really want to use for your account.

2. Selecting the Wrong Currency in the Facebook Ads Account

At the same time as defining the payment method, you must select the currency in which you will be charged. As we are in Brazil, the currency must be the Real (BRL).

However, the field to be filled in with the currency at the time of registration is already filled in with the default from your computer's settings. This default may be the American currency Dollar (US$). If you leave it in dollars, you can only change it once every 60 days after your account balance runs out.

This is one of the things you need to pay attention to when creating an account.

3. Selecting the Wrong Time Zone in the Facebook Ads Account

Another issue that deserves attention when creating an account is the choice of time zone. Depending on your computer's settings, it may be set to a different time zone.

Choose the "America/Sao Paulo" option, which is the Brazilian option.

If you set the wrong time zone and then want to change it, the existing ad account will be deactivated and so will the ads. Therefore, you cannot reactivate this account and a new ad account will be created with the new time zone and you must set up your entire ad structure again in this new account.

Below is the field where you need to change the time zone and currency.

If your audience is very narrowly targeted, based only on the information you have selected or that Facebook has given you, this will limit the reach of your ad. In these cases, try to broaden your audiences a little beyond combining interests by using the "limit audiences" tool.

When we're talking about audiences with a very broad segmentation, you could be spending money on people who are poorly qualified and have no interest in your product or service. As such, Facebook understands that you want to reach as many people as possible at any cost, and this is very bad for your account.

The ideal is to spend as much as you need to on an audience that really has the potential to bring you results.

5. Choosing the wrong campaign objective

When we create a campaign in meta ads, we have a few different types of campaigns with different objectives that will define how you will be charged and how the user will receive your ad.

The problem with choosing the wrong objective is that the platform optimizes the creatives and the way your money will be spent according to the objective. If your objective isn't aligned, you won't get results in line with your goals.
